Reviewing Stories Within a Story: The Frangipani Hotel

The Frangipani Hotel is a fictional story by author Violet Kupersmith that amalgamates the supernatural with the daily lives of a few fictional characters. You can read this book on Vistmedia. Based on the folktales of Vietnam, narrated to her by her grandmother, the author takes us deeper into the world of Vietnam and its culture.

The book addresses the experiences of both the living immigrant as well as those who remained behind to suffer. This is the story of a beautiful young woman who appears out of the blue at the Firangipani Hotel in Hanoi. Also, it tells the tale of a naked Vietnamese man who is found behind a dumpster by a jaded teenage girl. When a plump Vietnamese girl is sent to her grandmother's place to lose some weight, the only thing which leads to exploring the outside world is the aroma of freshly baked bread.

The story is a compelling tale of people who are haunted by their past and the burdens they have to carry within them due to it. With in-depth insights in the lives of every character in the book, Kupersmith takes head on the haunting experiences of the post war experiences of the Vietnam war. The genre itself transcends itself into a wholly original concept of ideals and ideologies.
